The Scene is Set for Romance by New York City Theater She set out to become famous but ended up discovering who she really was. 1941; New York City. After leaving the Long Island potato fields behind, Alice "Al" Huffman and her childhood closest pals are headed to Broadway. Al is told she lacks talent, which quickly puts an end to her dreams of becoming a successful theater actor. Al finds work to finance her acting lessons and grows used to a typical life with friends and a lover. When she meets Juliana, everything changes. A singer on the verge of fame, Juliana embodies all that Al does not: she is beautiful, gifted, and gay.


The farm girl is immediately drawn in and begins to have feelings and thoughts she never knew were possible. Between the "normal" world of her childhood pals and the LGBT underground, Al finds herself slipping back and forth. She can manage the juggling act until war breaks out and everything is altered once more. Her life starts to fall apart when her two worlds converge. Can Alice, in a city teeming with change, finally find what she's been searching for all along?
